DearCrimeWatchers:

Pres. Irv Heller, Sally Heyman, Carmen Caldwell and Manager, George BurgessWe are in full gear for this year’s outstanding celebration! The 33rd Awards Ceremony will be held once again at the Sheraton Mart Hotel (formerly known as Radisson Mart) on May 30, 2008. A night that residents and law enforcement from all over Miami-Dade County come together to celebrate and honor those that have helped maintain our neighborhoods free of crime and have helped to improve our quality of life. We are truly a blessed community because of their involvement.

For those of you who have never attended our Awards Ceremony, it is a wonderful night of good food and lots of excitement not to mention a beautiful hotel. As a crime watcher, you will have the opportunity not only to recognize your officer but meet their command staff. For those of you that have been organized for years, you will join those that have just started and you will be able to share your experiences with them. This event will also recognize crime watchers and chairpersons, who are nominated by their police officers or police departments. All of you have been an integral part in the reduction of crime. Last year we had over 700 people attending and we want to break that record this year. In this newsletter, you will have your nomination form for “Police Officer of the Year 2007” and information on making your reservation. We will also be needing sponsors to help defray some of the cost of this event. So if you know of any companies, please have them contact us or take them this newsletter which has all the necessary information. As a non-profit organization funded partially by your tax dollars, grants and donations, we can use the help.

30th Awards Ceremony, September 2005, Carmen Calwell and George BurgessThis year our Keynote speaker will be Kimberly J. Dalferes former National Director from the National Crime Prevention Coalition of America from Washington, D.C. Ms. Dalferes and the Coalition have been wonderful partners with us, and she truly knows crime prevention and the efforts of Neighborhood Watch at the grassroot level. OurMaster of Ceremony again will be Brian Andrews, formerly with CBS4, now living in Bogota, Columbia a feature reporter with Caracol TV News and a freelance correspondent with CBS News & CBS Radio. Brian did an outstanding job last year, adding lots of excitement to the event. We are extremely thankful to Miami-Dade County Commissioner Joe Martinez for his commitment and support by accepting to be the Honorary Chair for this event again this year.

Finally, our crime prevention programs including Neighborhood Watch and our Youth Crime Watch in the schools would not be possible without the funding support from our Board of County Commissioners, the Mayor, Miami-Dade County Police, and the Miami-Dade Schools Police. I want to thank you, the crime watchers and partners for being who you are and what you do to make our community the very best. God bless you and see you at the Sheraton.
