Officers, crime watchers recognized in ceremony

Annual Awards CeremonyMiami-Dade Police Officer David Carrero of the Intracoastal District, who was shot several times while answering a call about a burglary in progress, received special recognition when Citizens' Crime Watch of Miami-Dade held its 33rd annual Awards Ceremony on May 30 at the Sheraton Miami Mart Hotel.

The group also paid special tribute to the late Jose Marques, a retiree from Florida International University, by presenting an award in his name.

Carmen Caldwell, Citizens' Crime Watch executive director, said more than 450 people attended the event at which County Commissioner Joe Martinez was honorary event chairman and County Mayor Carlos Alvarez expressed support for the Neighborhood Watch programs.

Brian Andrews, formerly with WTVJ Channel 4, came to the event again as master of ceremonies.

This past week, we at Citizens' Crime Watch of Miami-Dade celebrated our 33rd annual Awards Ceremony to recognize those who have helped make a difference in our community. It was an exciting night, with more than 450 people in attendance.
