CITIZEN'S CRIME WATCH PROGRAMS

Benefits of the program include getting to know your neighbors better, reducing worries about breaking and entering (especially when you are on a vacation), developing a greater pride in your community and police department, gaining better knowledge of the law and self-protection and getting involved without risk or cost in stopping crime and making the community safer. Citizen's Crime Watch diversified and innovative programs include:

Standard Neighborhood Crime Watch Program - Organized to include all areas regardless of ethnic or socio-economic background.

Youth Crime Watch (YCW) - Encourages peer pressure among students to report crime, change attitudes and take pride in their schools through its series of crime prevention training programs and action projects. Our mission is to foster a safe school environment impacting students and beginning through awareness and involvement. YCW s proactive. It is a prevention program available to all public schools, grades K-12. Starting a YCW program in a school does not signal a problem, Instead, it seeks to prevent crime and violence from happening in the first place. Our goal is a safe and learning environment.

ICHAMP - Citizens Ham/Mobile Marine Patrol is open to all Licensed Amateur Radio operators. Ham operators are trained in appropriate methods for reporting crimes and emergency situations directly in "911" facilities.

Business Crime Watch - Implemented to educate and inform the business owner how to better protect their business, employees and themselves.

Airport Watch - Airport employees, including airlines, vendors, contract services and all related transportation services are trained as additional "eyes and ears" of the police at the airport.

Senior Citizens Watch - A uniquely designed crime watch program focusing on the specific protection of senior citizens.

Early Start Program - a comprehensive alcohol, drug, tobacco and violence awareness program that targets early childhood education students, 3-5 years of age. This program teaches through role-playing, group interaction, arts and crafts, field trips and story telling. Parents are encouraged and trained to reinforce lessons, since children at this age learn best through repetition.

Crime Prevention Seminars - group seminars designed to train citizens in self protection and crime prevention techniques.

Realtor Watch - A new program whereby realtors throughout the country are trained to "crime watch" during their work days in the neighborhoods and commercial areas there they sell.

Sticker and Signs - One of the most effective crime deterrents is CCW's highly visible stickers and signs program. Crime watchers are encouraged to place stickers on the residence windows. Signs are permanently installed in a Citizen's Crime Watch neighborhood.

Volunteer Recognition - For outstanding service in the fight against crime, CCW hosts an annual dinner for citizens and law enforcement officers, as well as community activists, media and local elected officials.

Citizens Stand Against Crime - Designed to slow solidarity between citizens and law enforcement and at the same time sending a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

A burglar, shortly after being arrested, remarked to the police that the neighborhoods that displayed the Citizen's Crime Watch signs made him nervous, thus he avoided those areas.
