Organizing
A TELEPHONE CHAIN |
| |
After the first meeting with the
police officer taken place, the Neighborhood Chairperson and he/her Block
Captain should organize the "telephone Chain". That is the internal
communication mechanism by which information is passed. |
Each resident, for example,
should have the home and office phone numbers of his/her immediate
neighbors, and the number of his/her Block (or floor) Captain. They should
know what number to call to report an emergency or a crime in progress (911)
and the number to call to report lower priority incidents such as a
suspicious car or person. |

In the event of an emergency,
the first call should be to the police, but thereafter the neighbors should,
be informed about what is going on. |
In a typical chain, the
Neighborhood Chairperson would call their Block Captains; they in turn would
call designated individuals on their block, and those individuals would cal
neighbors. |

SIGNAGE |
Once organized, a neighborhood
is eligible to purchase and display the large, yellow
CITIZEN'S CRIME WATCH
sign. |
