District/City AREA CHAIRPERSON

Miami-Dade County is divided into specific geographic policing stations with 31 municipalities. Most of these have a chairperson who oversees the Citizen's Crime Watch activities in his/her area and is the pint of contact for both active and prospective Neighborhood Chairpersons.

The Area and City Chairpersons are members of the Citizen's Crime Watch Board of Directors. They meet on the first Wednesday of each month to give reports of work that are doing in their respective areas and other business brought before the Board. These meeting are held at the Citizen's Crime Watch central office.

NEIGHBORHOOD CHAIRPERSON

Once the neighborhood has been organized, the Chairperson serves as the link between the residents and the Neighborhood Chairpersons. He/she is the catalyst, the point of reference, the shaker, the mover. He/she knows the neighborhood, its residents, their strengths and their skills. He/she can act as their spokesperson, making sure that Area Chairperson and/or central office are aware of their neighborhood's needs.
BLOCK CAPTAIN
Once the neighborhood has been organized, the Block Captain serves as the link between the residents and the Neighborhood Chairperson. He/she welcomes newcomers to the block and invites them to participate in Citizen's Crime Watch. He/she keeps the telephone chain up to date. Plus promotes neighborhood interaction - such as a block party during the holiday season - because people are more inclined to work together when they know one another and share a common interest. If the Neighborhood Chairperson advises Captains that there has been some spree of crime in the immediate area, they pass this information on to the resident and encourage them to be on their guard.
